Hunt trophy-class black bear from a million-dollar boat at Prince of Wales Island, Alaska |

If you want to take a record-class black bear, few places compare with Prince of Wales Island. And one of the most enjoyable ways to hunt bears is from a skiff based from a larger boat where you can enjoy all the comforts of bunks and a stateroom. This outfitter has a quota of 14 tags a year. If he doesn't use up his quota, he is in jeopardy of having the Forest Service reduce the number of hunters he can take. So he has reduced his price this year in order to fill up. You'll be met at Craig, Alaska, and will hunt parts of the island that few hunters visit, meaning you have a chance to take a tremendous bear. The outfitter's biggest bear last year had a skull that measured 22 3/16 Boone and Crockett points. |

The license and tag are not included in the price of the hunt. Most hunting is by spotting and stalking. Last fall only one hunter did not score, and he was ill and wasn't able to hunt much. His son killed a giant boar that was in the seven-foot category. Note: The bear season extends into June, but the outfitter runs an earlier hunt so normally no bears have rubbed pelts. Hunted are based from an 80-foot boat. There are very few outfits in Alaska that can accommodate a large group of bear hunters because few have boatds large enough. |
