Admiralty Island offers superb brown bear hunting |

|
This hunt takes place on mountainous and rugged Admiralty Island, which has one of the highest densities of brown bears anywhere. It takes place in May, when hunters commonly see humpback whales, orca whales, sea lions, seals, porpoises, Sitka blacktail deer, otters, mink and dozens of other wildllife species. Hunter success is usually 100% because there are a lot of bears. The early season typically produces the largest and best-furred bears, but there are not as many to choose from then, so occasionally a hunter might fail to fill his tag. The second hunt has been 100% successful for many years. Pelts are usually dark brown with light gold tips. Spring bears have long and luxurious pelts. Camp consists of a wall tent for cooking. Hunters sleep on cots inside large dome tents. Camp is on a small spit of land between a saltwater cove and a freshwater creek among old-growth timber. Meals are included, and the outfitter said that most hunters will gain weight. You'll travel along the coastline in an inflatable Zodiac boat, where you'll glass for bears foraging on grass, ferns and buds. Since the bears begin rutting in May, you'll sometimes see a bear traveling the coastal shoreline, looking for a sow in heat. This hunt is not particularly difficult physically, so hunters of all ages and physical abilities can enjoy the trip. You'll travel to Juneau for this hunt, where most hunters stay overnight before an early morning air charter to the island. Overnight accommodations and the charter are not included in the price of the hunt. |
