Hunt out of Chignik Bay, Alaska, for huge brown bear |

|
This hunt takes place on native corporation land about halfway down the Alaska Peninsula near Chignik. These are typical Peninsula bears, meaning 8 1/2- to 9-footers are relatively common and that guys who hold out have a good chance of getting a crack at a 9 1/2-footer, and every year 10-footers are taken on this hunt.
Click on photo for larger image The weather is typical of the Peninsula, which means temperatures during most days in October are in the 30s and 40s. Occasionally temps drop to the high 20s, and you can expect a wet, miserable wind. But the bears are big, and that's why the Peninsula hunts are expensive. The hunting license is $85, and the tag is $500. Most hunters buy a fishing license, too, because the fishing is superb for silver salmon, halibut and sometimes other types of salmon. Moose/grizzly: The same outfitter is offering a moose hunt, and you can take a grizzly for a trophy fee. The moose hunting takes place in an area with superb coho salmon fishing, three to five-pound rainbows and 30 to 40-inch northern pike. Call for prices and details. |
