A typical bear that wandered into the open, looking for sows in heat. This long-established outfitter takes one to four hunters a year the last 10 days of May. Hunters typically take boars in the eight to 10-foot range with most bears in the 8 1/2 to 9-foot range. His last 10 hunters have killed seven bears, and one of those hunters missed. The hunt is 40 miles out of Cordova near Katalla. You'll sleep in what Alaska guides call a bomb shelter tent or quonset tent. You'll hunt on the Bering River and its tributaries or the Copper River delta. During the last 10 days of May the rut brings the big boars out after the sows, which often come out on the sandbars if the weather is normal. The price is $13,500.
