You must apply in November for the spring hunt, which runs April 20-May 10. This hunt is usually 100% with all hunters getting a crack at a bear. This hunt produces high success on bears over 9 feet, typically averaging about 9'6". There are openings for fall 2008 and spring 2009 at $13,900. Details.

Good price on brown bear float trip in western Alaska

Outfitter takes one hunter per year on Chichagof Island, book 2010 now at good rate

Admiralty Island, southeastern Alaska: Near Juneau and British Columbia, this area has a large number of brown bears. It's common to see 25 to 35 bears during a 10 or 11-day spring hunt, May 2-11 or May 11-21. Guides avoid rubbed bears or sows. Typically you'll cruise the shoreline in a Zodiak and glass from vantage points. Tent camping. The hunt is $9,950 in 2007, not including the charter flight from Juneau, which is about $750 round trip. There is an additional $300 wilderness fee. This hunt usually produces a bear for all six hunters. In 2005 one hunter who had shot three brown bears previously passed on a 9-foot boar. Over the years the average bear taken on this hunt is 8 1/2 feet. Most years at least two of the bears taken will be nine feet squared or bigger with the rest measuring between eight and nine feet. The hunt takes place in the Kutznahoo Wilderness (Tlingit meaning "Fortress of the Bear"). Openings for 2007. Hunt BR360AD.
