| This outfitter operates in an area where the state of Wyoming has imposed harvest quotas. One area has a quota of eight and the other has a quota of 15 lions a year. The season ends at the end of March if the mortality quota has not been reached. Both hunts are out of Afton. Elevations are generally in the 6,000 to 8,000 foot range. In 2002 the outfitter took one hunter, and he took a 15-inch-skull tom, the largest taken by an outfitted hunter in Wyoming last year. Only one hunter took this hunt last winter, and he took a cougar with a 15-inch skull, the largest listed in the annual Wyoming outfitters' trophy contest. The outfitter said he could handle about five hunters a year. His father, an expert houndsman, does most of the guiding. Price is $3,500 for five days, and motel lodging and meals are not included. Most hunting takes place in Wyoming's well-known deer terrain near Kemmerer, Cokeville and Star Valley. The license is about $260. The best times to hunt coincide with the snow season, the end of November through February. Ask about Hunt ML433. |
