GREAT NEW PRODUCT

I'm impressed with a new product that I highly recommend to hunters. Called PhoneSkope, it's a way to attach your cell phone to your binoculars or spotting scope. I had the company make me a PhoneSkope that allows me to connect my Galaxy Note II to a unique spotting scope that I use, consisting of a Nikon Scope Adapter paired with a Nikkor 300mm F4 lens. Through it I can see and photograph or video tape bucks more than four miles from my house. It's unbelievable. To contact the company check out www.phoneskope.com.

Montana outfitter offers mountain lion hunts

One of our favorite outfitters in Montana has decided to start offering cougar hunts in two locations: a private ranch near White Sulphur Springs and public land around his home base in Dillon.

His houndsmen have been guiding for a different outfitter in the Philipsburg area, where they had excellent success, but a rule change has made it virtually impossible for a non-residents to hunt that area.

Both the White Sulphur Springs and Dillon areas can be hunted by non-residents until a harvest quota is reached. Often that quota is reached in December, so you'll want to book your hunt early in the season. Once a harvest quota is reached you may hunt a different area.

One of his houndsmen lives in Dillon and has treed many cats over the past 10 years. This area has produced Boone and Crockett lions.

The White Sulphur Springs ranch is owned by a man who manages the property for quality elk hunting, and he likes to have two or three cougars killed a year in order to reduce predation on the big game. The ranch is a "major wintering area" for big game.

This hunt does not include motel accommodations or restaurant meals.
