Utah CWMU Ranches Offer Early Season Rifle Hunts for Mule Deer and Elk

Some of the finest hunting in Utah takes place on private mountain land. These ranches are owned by a wealthy investor who lets one of our outfitters manage them for a quality hunting experience. Enrolled in the state's Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit program, both of these ranches are on the east side of the Wasatch Range. Covering more than 13,000 acres, the ranches offer spectacular views and wonderful early season rifle hunting for mule deer and elk. The outfitter takes a maximum of four elk and four bucks on each ranch per year. Consequently the animals have a chance to grow old enough to grow bragging-size racks. Plus you get a chance to hunt in September when the bucks are still in the more open high country and when the bulls are rutting and calling. Most bulls harvested on this hunt are 6x6s scoring 280 to 310 Boone and Crockett points. There are some excellent mule deer on the properties, and their antlers are usually covered in velvet during the first half of September. You'll be looking for a muley in the 170s to 190s, and most hunters who hold out have at least one shooting opportunity at a buck in that category with most harvested animals measuring 160 to 190 B&C with spreads of 26 to 32 inches. Accommodations are in a lodge near the properties, which cover 13,000 acres. Airport pickup in Salt Lake City is included.
