Utah mountain ranch with thriving elk and mule deer herds offers archery hunting |

There aren't many areas in the West where mule deer and elk are thriving in the same place, but this canyon in Utah is one of them. To maximize trophy size the ranch owners allow very few hunters a year, and the property is surrounded by private land under similar management. The result is some outstanding trophy-size mule deer and lots of 5x5 and 6x6 bull elk. The archery hunt is usually outstanding. Last year we had two bowhunters, and they called in lots of bulls and saw several over 300 Pope and Young points. The outfitter expects all his bowhunting customers to get shooting at mature bucks 26 inches wide or better and at 5x5 or 6x6 bulls. This hunt includes pickup at the Salt Lake City airport, meals and tent lodging. If you would prefer to stay in a motel, you may do so at your own expense in a town about 30 minutes away. Licenses are available over the counter in this area. However, there is a limit on the number of tags sold, so we recommend buying licenses as soon as you book the hunt. The terrain is mostly rolling to semi-steep with lots of quaking aspen and conifers with some sagebrush and serviceberry and bitterbrush. Deer live on the property all year except the winter, when they move down a canyon 10 to 15 miles. |
