Combination elk/mule deer hunt on private ranches in northern Utah |

One of the most common requests we get is for a combination mule deer and elk hunt that offers high success on representative trophies. In most parts of the West, however, this hunt simply does not exist. Either the seasons do not correspond, or the hunting for one species is poor. This hunt, on the other hand, takes place where both deer and elk populations are healthy and where you can both species simultaneously. Hunter success is high on bulls in the 260 to 300 Boone and Crockett class as well as on bucks that score 150 to 190 B&C. I've been on some of this outfitter's property and usually have been able to see elk and deer the same day. He keeps hunting pressure low to keep hunter success high.
Most of the property he leases is in Utah's Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit system, so he can hunt earlier and later than the state's general seasons. You can hunt with a rifle as early as Sept. 1 and as late as Nov. 20, depending on which parcel you hunt. Bow hunts take place between Aug. 23 and Sept. 14. You'll stay in a cabin or house, and meals are provided. Airport pickup at Salt Lake City is included in the price of the hunt. This hunt offers uncrowded hunting on private land, where hunting pressure is light enough that you have an excellent chance of taking a mature five or six-point trophy. Few animals exceed 320 Boone and Crockett points, but almost every hunter has been able to take a bull in the 260 to 320 class with most of those scoring under 300 B&C. If you're looking for a 350-class bull, this hunt is not for you, but if you want to be pretty sure of taking home a nice, representative wallhanger, this is an excellent choice. The outfitter leases more than 150,000 acres of prime deeded land in two northern Utah counties. Some of this acreage is enrolled in the state's Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit system, so you can hunt earlier or later than the general season. This provides the opportunity to hunt with a rifle during the rut in late September and early October. Also, some of the property is open as late as Nov. 20 to take advantage of elk movements to lower elevations. Because the hunting pressure is light on this ranchland, hunter success is typically 100 percent. You don't have to be in exceptional shape to enjoy this hunt because private roads or ATV trails get you close to most of the better hunting areas. We've worked with the outfitter for five or six years, and most clients book return trips. He also offers mule deer and moose hunts on some of the land you'll be hunting, so you have a chance to book a combination hunt if you like.
