Rich LaRocco of Hunts.Net hunted the ranch for half a day last year and shot one of the smaller bulls taken during the season. Most hunters saw bulls bigger than this one. Here's a chance to hunt elk on a private ranch in northern Utah for a reasonable price. The hunt includes accommodations in a wall tent ot travel trailer with extra-large cots and nice mattresses. Meals are not included. You can travel into Manila, Utah, to eat in restaurants or you can prepare you own meals in camp. The ranch covers approximately 5,000 private acres. "We had an excellent hunt last year," the outfitter said, "Everybody had shooting opportunities except for one guest who could stay only half a day. Almost everybody scored, but we had one hunter who missed three different bulls, and we had more misses than hits. A touch of bull fever, I suppose." You can choose a hunt during bow, rifle or blackpowder seasons. Last year tags sold out in the summer, so book early and buy your tag so that you can plan on your hunt.

You can fly to Salt Lake City and either rent a car for the 2 1/2-hour drive to the ranch, or you can pay $200 extra to be picked up and dropped off at the airport. The ranch features rolling sagebrush ridges with aspen and fir pockets in the lower elevations to about 7,500 feet. The higher country goes to about 10,000 feet and is mostly covered by conifers and aspens with some meadows of varying sizes.
