Here's a chance to hunt elk on a private ranch in northern Utah for $4,900. The ranch is for five days, and you can add days for an additional $300 per day. The hunt includes accommodations in a wall tent with extra-large cots and nice mattresses. Meals are not included. You can travel into Manila, Utah, to eat in restaurants or you can prepare you own meals in camp. The ranch covers 4,500 acres. "We used to sell trespass permits on the ranch," the outfitter said, "but we have had a lot better luck when we've provided guides, so now you must take a guided hunt. None of our hunters who have had a guided five-day hunt has failed to see bulls, and some of our customers have seen bulls every day." You can choose a hunt during bow, rifle or blackpowder seasons. Last year tags sold out in September, so book early and buy your tag so that you can plan on your hunt. You can fly to Salt Lake City and either rent a car for the 2 1/2-hour drive to the ranch, or you can pay $200 extra to be picked up and dropped off at the airport. The ranch features rolling sagebrush ridges with aspen and fir pockets in the lower elevations to about 7,500 feet. The higher country goes to about 10,000 feet and is mostly covered by conifers and aspens with some meadows of varying sizes. |
