50,000-acre ranch in southwestern New Mexico offers big bulls, landowner permits |
||||||||||||||||||||||
This hunt is offered by one of our long-time outfitters, who has produced a high success rate on mature bulls for many years. It takes place on a private ranch that covers 50,000 acres. The ranch might be expanded another 20,000 acres in 2007 if a proposed land trade goes through. In a typical year about half the bulls harvested are in the 330 to 380 B&C range and the others average about 300. Hunter success varies from about 70 to 90 percent and depends to a great degree on hunters' shooting ability and trophy standards. The landowner voucher is included in the price of the hunt, so you do not need to apply for and draw a tag in the state's annual computer permit lottery. Hunting typically takes place from early September through mid-November. You'll stay in a ranch house or cabin. Meals are prepared by a cook.
