Winter archery elk hunt offers chance at big bulls
Do-it-yourself private-land Utah deer and elk hunts This 2,700-acre property in southern Utah was productive in the 2011 season with the hunters taking nice bulls and bucks. Price is $3,500 a person, unguided, for either deer or elk. There will be four deer hunters and four elk hunters allowed on the property in 2012, and that includes all three seasons -- rifle, archery and muzzleloader. You'll need to apply by March 3 for muzzleloader and rifle deer tags; archery deer as well as rifle, muzzleloader and archery elk tags are unlimited. If you're looking for a place where you and one to three buddies can enjoy a hunt without others on the ranch, we can put you in touch with thed man with the property. "It's a really good piece of property," he said. "It's really ideal habitat with aspens, oakbrush and some pines. There are a couple of cabins or bunkhouses for sleeping, but you'll need to bring your own food and cooking equipment and stoves. I recommend bringing a motor home or a trailer or camper. The hunters should do really well even though it's an unguided hunt because the game is in good shape." Hunt MD4573EZ. Utah rifle elk hunts during the rut One of our Utah outfitters has a hunt on two ranches that are part of the state's Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit. "Our hunters see a lot of elk on this hunt," he said, "and most hunters should be able to kill a six-point bull. Most bulls score 280 to 300 Boone and Crockett points, and sometimes there will be a 340 class bull. But we see a lot of elk, and you should be into elk every day. " The fee is $5,000 plus a $2,000 kill fee and includes trailer or wall tent accommodations and meals. Hunts can be scheduled anytime in September or early October. Hunt EK4505. |
