Bowhunters: Wyoming ranch offers excellent hunting for wild elk |

|
This ranch, situated in the foothills of the Uinta Mountains near Evanston, Wyoming, is home to a large resident herd of elk. The best time of year to hunt them is during the rut, and bowhunting is allowed during that time. The elk are not greatly pressured, so it's usually not too hard for your guide to call a bull within archery range.
"A bowhunter gets a close range encounter almost every day," the outfitter said. "And some days they'll get several opportunities at good bulls. It's really ideal for an archer who wants a lot of action in an area with a good, healthy elk population and uncrowded hunting because we take no more than four hunters a week, and we have 53,000 private acres, so you don't have to worry about somebody else messing up a calling opportunity." Probably the biggest disadvantage of this hunt is that you must draw a tag, and you must apply early -- by the end of January. You can increase your odds of drawing a permit by applying in the so-called special drawing, which costs more. You can elect to get a preference point if you don't draw a license, virtually assuring yourself of getting a tag the following year. The outfitter is building a nice log lodge on the property, and it will be done in time for the 2009 season. Most elk taken on this hunt score between 250 and 300 Pope and Young points, but there are quite a few bigger bulls. Most years the bigger elk taken on this ranch score about 320 Pope and Young points. This is not a game farm. You'll be hunting wild elk. But because hunting pressure is so light, you can pretty well plan on seeing some bulls up close and personal. This hunt takes place in southwestern Wyoming on a 53,000-acre private ranch consisting of over 70% aspen and pine forest, which is home to a resident herd of over 500+ elk. This area is very conductive to the archery hunter with all areas easily accessible by foot, making for perfect stalking conditions. Hunters on average would encounter daily opportunities at bulls with some days producing multiple opportunities at good bulls - perfect for the archery hunter looking for a lot of action in an area with good elk numbers. Accommodations include a 5-star hunting lodge. This hunt is limited to 4 hunters per week, so give us a call today. Now booking 2009. |
