A rancher I've known for 15 years is offering some quality hunts for mule deer and elk. He takes only two hunters per season on his 5,000-acre private ranch except during rifle elk season, when he takes three hunters. Each hunter has his own personal guide, either the rancher himself or one of his sons. His property borders the Deseret Land & Livestock ranch, which is managed for trophy hunting, and so he has very good quality for his acreage. Tags are over the counter. The following hunts are available in 2006 and 2007 and include bunkhouse lodging and meals:
Muzzleloader elk: $2,950 a person. 6 days in early November. Hunters can expect to see mature 6x6 bulls, but getting close can be difficult. In 2004 both hunters saw nice bulls, and one of them got a 280-class elk.
Rifle mule deer: $2,950 a person. Five days in late October. Hunters can expect to see bucks in the 24 to 28-inch range. The two hunters in 2004 scored on 27 and 28" bucks.
Rifle elk: $5,500 a person. Five days in early October. Three hunters per year. In the past three years (2003-2005) a total of nine hunters have taken six bulls averaging 300 B&C. Note: Most bulls taken on this ranch range from 280 to 340.

| Rifle deer hunters are typically 100% successful unless they get too picky, but they all see mature animals
Rifle elk hunting is and excellent value. Not all hunters see mature bulls, but 6 of 9 hunters have scored in the past three years (2003-2005) on bulls averaging 300 B&C.
Muzzleloader elk hunters can expect to see mature bulls, but getting close is difficult, so expect a 50% hunter success rate
Muzzleloader deer hunters typically have several chances at mature bucks and should score 50 to 100%, depending on shooting.

This part of Utah tends to produce some of the state's better bucks and bulls each year, mainly because 236,000-acre Deseret Land & Livestock ranch, which borders this property, manages for trophies by limiting the number of deer hunters. Most bordering ranches have taken a cue from Deseret and now severely limit hunter numbers. Muleys average 24 to 28 inches but sometimes get over 30 inches; elk average 330 to 350 on Deseret, 280 to 320 on most bordering ranches |
