Hunt free-ranging aoudad sheep in West Texas

Hunters are usually surprised at how fun and challenging it is to hunt free-roaming Barbary sheep in the desert mountains of West Texas. They're wilder than the deer in the same area, particularly the older rams. This outfitter has some excellent leases and has been able to maintain a 100% success rate, but you should be prepared to hike in some rough country and make some good long-distance shots. These are sheep, not goats. The meat is excellent tablefare. A hunt is a bargain, especially when you compare the price with those of native North American sheep. Trophy size is very good with most rams in the 28 to 32-inch range. The outfitter operates on some ranchland that an outfitter we used to use had leased. He also produced big rams on a regular basis. You also can add a wild hog on this hunt.

This hunt was not available last year because the outfitters got busy enough with (and made enough money in) the oil business that they didn't have time for aoudad hunting or guiding. Call for an update.
