Hunt wild, free-roaming oryx or gemsbok in New Mexico | ||||||||||||||||||||||
|
An outfitter who has more experience hunting wild oryx in North America than anybody else is offering a hunt this year for only $1,400. You must apply for a tag by Feb. 5.
In the past few years he has produced 25 bulls and a 90 percent hunter success rate on depredation hunts on private lands that border the White Sands Missile Range. Those hunts were much more expensive because the outfitter had to buy depredation permits from ranchers. Last year's price on those hunts was $5,500. Now he is able to offer a hunt on range itself, which is a better hunt because you're not restricted to small parcels. You must draw the tag, however, and the application deadline is in early February. The outfitter expects a 100% success rate.
This is the only hunt we offer where the license is more than the hunt. The tag costs $1,509 and you also must buy a $100 access permit from the federal government. Motel lodging and meals are extra. You must apply for these tags right away. Call if you're interested. Oryx were released in New Mexico in 1969 and have thrived in the Southwestern desert. The venison is considered by many to be the best eating of all wild game.
