Kodiak Island, Alaska, offers coho salmon and halibut: This outfitter operates out his 5-star 2,000 square foot lodge on Ugak Bay off the southeastern coast of Kodiak Island. He offers world-class fishing off his 40-foot boat and nice lodge accommodations with 6 bedrooms, bar, sauna, laundry service, fish processing, meals, the complete 5-day package for only $2,500 or 4 days is $2,000. Early July produces kings and halibut, while later in the month and on into August is better for coho and halibut. Float the Salmon River wilderness for Idaho steelhead: This is a trip that eveybody should do at least once in their lifetime. You'll meet the outfitter in the town of Salmon and then drive down the river to the end of the road, where you'll float for five days, stopping every night at a lodge in this pristine wilderness. You'll fish for steelhead and sometimes salmon. At certain times of year you also can enjoy hunting chukars and Hungarian partridge. You'll most likely see bighorn sheep and mule deer, and you might also spot elk, black bear, otter, beaver, coyote, eagles and ospreys. $2,200 for five days. The outfitter also does a hunt specifically designed for birdhunters who like to fish. You'll float from Lewiston or Grangeville down to the Snake River and most likely get out in Oregon. $1,850 for five days. |
Flyfish western Alaskan streams: World-class flyfishing for genetically pure wild rainbow trout is the big draw of this trip. The outfitter accommodates six anglers a week. Rainbow trout are typically 18-24" long with an occasional trophy to 28 inches. Char typically run 16-24" with a rare fish to 27 inches. Grayling are usually 16 to 18 inches long. Sockeye salmon fishing is excellent in the first three weeks of July, and they're fresh from the sea during the first part of the month. Most stream fishing consists of casting to fish you see. Tarpon and sailfish in Costa Rica Tennessee striped bass: Early spring is the time to catch striped bass in east Tennessee. Boone Lake near Bristol and the Tennessee River around Knoxville produce good numbers of fish from 25 to 35 lbs. from late February through May. 40 pounders are taken here. June through August tailrace fishing on the Tennessee River near Knoxville (Watts Bar Dam, Melton Hill Dam, Fort London Dam) frequently yield 20 to 40+ fish per day from 10 to 25 lbs. Rates are $270, $330, and $400 (2, 3 or 4 people) per day. Located 1 hour from the beautiful Smoky Mountains (Gatlinburg) Tennessee. Trip TN442. British Columbia wilderness stream fishing: This outfitter offers plenty of fish, fantastic scenery, with excellent food and accommodations. The area is spectacular. There is a good chance you will see mountain goats, grizzly bears, moose and plenty of eagles. 3-day packages are at $1,840 or 6 days are $3,300. The main species are king salmon, rainbow, steelhead, dolly varden, coho, grayling, pike and lake trout. June, July and August provide the best assortment of fish.
