Hunt the giant salmon-eating coastal grizzlies of northern British Columbia | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
A British Columbia outfitter has just bought a prime coastal grizzly hunting concession. The bears in this area eat salmon and look like and grow almost as big as Alaska brown bears. The outfitter prefers the fall hunt during the last two weeks of October. Due to politics by people who know very little about wild grizzly populations the outfitter is allocated a quota of only one bear for this three-year period. Once a customer fills a tag, he won't get another bear quota until 2007. In the spring the bears are rutting in alpine country, and you must be in excellent physical condition. The previous outfitter had been producing bears with skulls between 23 and 26 inches. The bears in this area are huge with a nine-foot average, and the previous outfitter killed a 10 1/2-footer. Some experts say these are essentially brown bears. This hunt went 100% in 2003. If you prefer a fall hunt, you can schedule a trip in October. Meet the outfitter in Terrace, British Columbia. Expect to hike into alpine country. The outfitter has just expanded his area by buying out half the adjoining concession. This means he can kill a grizzly every year instead of every three years. The outfitter offers a spring hunt as well as a special 10-day fall combination hunt that includes grizzly, two black bears, a Columbia blacktail deer and a moose, and the hunter also can take wolves or wolverine if encountered. |
