Two openings for Alaska moose in 2007
If you're interested in this hunt, you'll have to apply for a tag by May 31. The price is $10,400 for a 10-day hunt in one area, and another $1,100 for a hunt inside a refuge. The outfitter got five moose for six hunters in 2006. The sixth guy was a bowhunter and had three stalking opportunities. The bulls had racks that ranged from 53 to 62 inches wide and the biggest moose scored at book minimum with heavy horns, good paddles and lots of points. Hunts are Sept. 5-15 and 16-30 outside the refuge. The refuge hunts are Sept. 5-20. All hunts include 10 days of actual hunting. We are expecting some huge moose to come from the refuge this year. That's because since the area became a limited-tag unit, hardly anybody has applied. Hunt MS4940.
