Discounted Canadian hunts An outfitter in Alberta has just bought some excellent permits. Hunt prices: rifle moose $5,500, $4,500 archery moose. The outfitter has retained the previous outfitter as a guide to ensure that his hunters do well this fall. Brooks Range moose: 2 openings in Alaska: Our moose hunt out of Kotzebue has two openings. You must apply for a tag by May. This hunt yields a high success rate on big bulls with most of the animals ranging from 60 to 65 inches. The outfitter has produced bulls up to 72 inches wide. This hunt has produced excellent success on big bulls for 20 years but it seems to be improving on really big bulls lately, probably due to the fact that tags are now limited by the state. The outfitter has not had anybody fail to draw a tag in two tries. I've done this hunt and took a caribou and big, old moose.
Alberta moose: Special late-season hunt includes transportation to the remote hunting area by helicopter. You may stay in a wall tent camp in the hunting area, or if you prefer you can fly out every afternoon and sleep in a motel. The hunt is 3 1/2 to four hours northwest of Edmonton. The outfitter produced 13 bulls for 13 hunters in 2007. Antlers ranged from 42 to 53 inches. $6,000 a person with two hunters per guide. You must have a party of two. If you can put together four hunters, the price drops to $5,000, including the helicopter charters. Hunting license and tag are extra.
Newfoundland moose Western Alaska float trip: Tags are sold over the counter for the area where this hunt takes place Sept. 5-14. $10,500 for 10 days plus $500 for transportation costs from Anchorage. Hunt MS652FL.
