Mountain goat hunts that were available in 2006

Call for updated prices and openings
Kodiak Island, Alaska: This outfitter typically produces 100% success on his mountain goat hunts with an average of 9 inches. He had 2 goat hunters in 2004 and both scored on long-haired billies. This backpack hunt can be less demanding than many goat hutns. The highest climb is about 3,000 feet or four hours for an average hiker. Normally the goats are at 1500 to 2,500 feet. 7-day October hunts are $5,000, and you can take a Sitka blacktail buck for an additional $1,000. His hunters took the new #3 SCI and #11 B&C bucks.
You must draw goat tags for Kodiak, and you must apply by Dec. 6 for the 2006 season. Two can apply together. Hunt MG783.

British Columbia: Backcountry hunts yield high success on big billies

Alaska goat hunt offers high success on Kodiak Island or areas near Anchorage

One of our favorite outfitters offers a trophy goat hunt on Kodiak Island and in areas near Anchorage. He charges $6,900 for a seven-day hunt, and that includes black bear as well as wolf or wolverine if you're lucky enough to see one. The hunt is Aug. 30-Sept. 6. "These are glacier goats that already have nice hair; they're definitely better than early August goats." Some hunts take place in a unit where tags are sold over the counter. You must apply by Dec. 6 to hunt Kodiak Island and another area. The outfitter took three goats for three hunters in 2005, all in the 8- to 9-inch range.  Hunt MG652.
