Top-rated mountain goat hunt in northern B.C. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||

This hunt takes place in northwestern British Columbia in the Coastal Range Mountains about 80 miles east of Juneau. The area holds an excellent goat population and some of the biggest billies in Canada. Many hunters stay in the base camp, where you can glass goats while having meals, travel the river by jetboat and then make a climb. Often the hunter and his guide spike on the mountain for a day or two before returning to base camp. Some hunters are flown to small lakes where they tent or stay in a cabin and spike camp from there. This outfitter also takes a fair amount of bowhunters. This is a premier goat hunt and if you are in good physical condition you should have opportunity to score. He takes goat hunters from early August to October 15. A stone sheep/goat combo is available, too. This outfitter consistently runs high hunter success on trophy class animals. Hunters typically fly out of a nice lodge base camp to trapper cabins or spike camp on the trail. The river can be used for access to some of the areas by jet boats. Some hunters and guides are dropped off at remote lakes. Two days on all hunts are typically used for travel. Not included is a charter flight from Juneau, Alaska. Hunts.Net agent Cliff Graham along with 2 friends will be on this hunt in 1999. This outfitter has more trophy goats in his hunting area than any other outfitter we know. We've had several clients hunt with him and all reported excellent hunting for outsize animals. Hunts.Net client, Jim Herron, saw between 30 and 35 goats the first day before taking his 9 1/2" billy! Several Boone and Crockett caliber heads were taken in 1998. Base camp is 60 miles east of Juneau, Alaska. Moose and caribou hunts have also been 100% over the past couple of years. Hunt No. MG93.
Andy Matis: "We hunted goat Sept 15 to 21. I got a 9 1/2"... and Bob took about a 9" .... It was a 45-minute flight from Juneau. ... We took boats up and down the river, and spike camped in tents with our guides 1x1. ... We stayed in a cabin for one night. They have a nice main camp. ... Climbing was steep and tough. We had to be careful. I saw 5 grizzlies but no moose or caribou.... I probably saw 50 billies over the course of the hunt, but we could only get at 3 or 4. |
