This hunt takes place on a 37,000-acre private ranch south and east of Albuquerque. The outfitter mainly offers rifle hunts, but he also offers a rut bow hunt Jan. 1-5. If you want to extend your hunt, extra days are $400 each. Meals and trailer accommodations are included. We've had nothing but good reports from customers who have used this outfitter.
"Our bowhunters see lots of bucks," the outfitter said. "This property has been tightly controlled for years, and so the bucks get old and big. Most archery hunters will see lots of bucks in the 130 to 160 bucks and most get a chance to stalk a bigger buck. We've killed bucks over 30 inches but not every year. Most of the bucks we kill have outside spreads of 22 to 26 inches, and the bigger bucks are 27 to 28 inches wide, and then there's the rare buck with an even wider spread. "Hunter success is high even during the archery hunt because the deer drop their guard during the winter rut. We limit the number of hunters on the ranch. In 2008 we had 16 total hunters between rifle, muzzleloader and archery, and they got 16 bucks with nothing scoring under 140 Boone and Crockett points. Most of our hunters come back year after year. The price is the same on all our hunts because our costs are the same, and the bowhunters do just as well as the rifle hunters."
