Mule deer hunts in New Mexico

In New Mexico 12 percent of all tags in each zone are reserved for outfitters' customers. The odds of drawing a tag range from 10 to 100 percent, depending on the zone. You do not have to draw a tag to hunt most private ranches.

If you want to hunt the famous Unit 2, which borders the Jicarilla Apache Indian Reservation, which is known for producing big bucks. The application deadline is in April 2009. This hunt costs about $3,000. Call for an update. There aren't a lot of deer, but every year this area produces some bucks over 30 inches and scoring 190 B&C or more.
