Mule deer hunts in Texas

The best hunting in Texas occurs on private ranches. Permits are sold over the counter. In good rain years the bucks grow bragging-size antlers with many bucks in the 180 to 200 class. In normal years the racks are typically 22 to 25 inches wide with heavy bases, scoring in the 160s and 170s. Hunter success is typically close to 100 percent except for hunters holding out for exceptional animals.

Hunt MD2826: $3,500 a person. High success on bucks in the 160s and 170s, rarely bigger, though this hunt produced a buck in the 190s about four years ago.

Hunt MD4731: $7,000 a person. High success on bucks in the 170s and 180s and occasionally in the 190s. Huge ranch with very limited hunting pressure.
