The ranch takes place on two ranches totaling 25,000 acres, and the outfitter takes just four or five hunters a year. For the past few years a family has booked up the ranch. They were 100% successful until last year, when two of the hunters missed bucks they said would have scored in the 180s, and another hunter passed on bucks, hoping to surpass the two 190s he has shot on this hunt. A five-day hunt is $5,500, and that does not include accommodations in a nearby motel or meals. Hunting is about 50 percent from high-rack trucks and 50 percent stalking. All five openings are available because the family that has been booking the hunt has decided to try something else this year. "I don't know of a better hunt except in Sonora and maybe one of the CWMU ranch hunts in Utah," the outfitter said. "It's a physically easy hunt, and the bucks are big-bodied and big-antlered. Every year we get bucks in the 190s." Ask about Hunt MD914TX. Alberta mule deer hunt offers high success on mature bucks

An outfitter I've known for more than 15 years takes only three hunters a year on each of two separate ranches. One ranch is full, but the family that has been hunting the other ranch has pulled out this year due to personal reasons. The ranch has produced three bucks for three hunters each of the past three years. Those nine bucks have ranged from 170 to more than 200 Boone and Crockett points. "We try to get people to hold out for 190s on this ranch," the outfitter said. "Some just can't last more than a day without taking one of the 170s or 180s. The hunters who hold out usually do really well. $9,500 for five hunting days with one hunter per guide. The average buck taken in the past three years has scored between 180 and 185 points. Nevada mule deer: Call me if you're interested in hunting deer in Nevada. The outfitter operates in several units that are managed for trophy hunting by the state. It's almost impossible to get a tag in the regular drawing, but if you book with an outfitter, your drawing odds skyrocket. The outfitter said some of his best trophy hunting is available in units that don't get national publicity, so the odds of drawing a tag in the outfitter allocation pool are excellent. He charges $3,000 for a five-day hunt. Ask about Hunt MD1754.
Northern Utah deer lease available Oct. 20-28 season. This ranch covers 4,500 acres on the Utah/Wyoming border. No more than four deer were taken off the property in 2005, and the rancher expects no more than four deer to be taken in 2006, so expect some older bucks. This lease is available to a group that will have exclusive use of the property during the 2007 rifle season. You must book early in order to buy your license before leftover non-resident licenses are converted to resident licenses. Ask about Hunt MD3394. |
Wyoming outfitter reports An outfitter who concentrates on quality deer, elk and antelope units in southern Wyoming reported his 2006 results. He had nine hunters kill eight mule deer bucks with the biggest scoring 195 B&C points. He said two other big bucks were missed. The only hunter who did not score passed on several bucks but was holding out for a wallhanger for which this area is well-known. The outfitter accommodated two archery elk hunters, and one killed a 300-class bull, while the other missed three bulls. His only antelope hunter got a pronghorn scoring about 84 B&C points. His prices are among the best for trophy hunts because he doesn't lease property, conducting his hunts only in units where resident as well as non-resident hunting permits are limited by the state. His prices will be going up a couple of hundred dollars in 2007, however, to adjust for increased gasoline prices. "It's not the gas we burn while hunting that kills me," he said. "It's all the gas we use up while scouting." Hunts.Net members contact us in January if you want to book a hunt and apply for tags. Nebraska mule deer/whitetail combo (take one of each) One of our Alaska outfitters leased a ranch in Nebraska last year and took four hunters after whitetail bucks. A father and son combo and two other hunters had a tough time shooting. The father killed a buck scoring 146 B&C after missing a deer that would have scored in the 150s. The son missed two bucks in the 150s, and the guide let him take one in the 120s. One of the other hunters missed a buck estimated to score 155, and the fourth hunter missed a buck in the 140s. None of the hunters went after muleys on a different property because a family emergency came up. The outfitter said the muleys should average in the 160s or 170s. He also saw on one of his leases the biggest whitetail of his life last year, a behemoth that he said would probably have scored in the 190s. A whitetail rifle hunt is $2,750.
