GREAT NEW PRODUCT

I'm impressed with a new product that I highly recommend to hunters. Called PhoneSkope, it's a way to attach your cell phone to your binoculars or spotting scope. I had the company make me a PhoneSkope that allows me to connect my Galaxy Note II to a unique spotting scope that I use, consisting of a Nikon Scope Adapter paired with a Nikkor 300mm F4 lens. Through it I can see and photograph or video tape bucks more than four miles from my house. It's unbelievable. To contact the company check out www.phoneskope.com.

Kansas ranch opens to hunting after six-year closure

Our outfitter in this part of Kansas has produced some great bucks over the past eight years, including this non-typical.

Here's a chance to hunt truly big whitetail bucks in southcentral Kansas on a 4,800-acre ranch that not even the landowner has hunted since 2002. Situated in the heart of big-buck country, this property promises to produce some great bucks this fall. There are currently 70 tags available in the game management unit where the ranch is situated. The ranch is available through one of our outfitters, who has been operating in this vicinity for years, producing a high success rate on bucks in the 140 to 160 class and has helped his hunters take some monsters in the 170s, 180s and 190s. He already has a 200-class buck on trail cam this year on one of his small leases. "I think I could put out some trail cams on this place and get some 170-class bucks on it within two weeks," he said. A self-guided hunt is $2,720, and you're welcome to join my bowhunting group Nov. 10-20, or a guided hunt is $4,500. Meals and accommodations are not included. There will be a maximum of four rifle hunters, four muzzleloader hunters and seven bowhunters. Hunt WD3422.

One voucher left in Nevada trophy deer unit. Make an offer

The former outfitter who helped us line up three landowner vouchers in the Silver State ended up drawing a tag himself. He got a beauiful 33-inch non-typical, pictured above, during the early October rifle season. A man who bought one of our vouchers got the buck on the right. Details and photos.

Colorado outfitter has openings for eastern plains mule deer/whitetail as well as five antelope slots

One of our favorite outfitters just committed to buying five pronghorn antelope vouchers in three different areas. His guided hunts are Oct. 3-9. Two of the hunts cost $2,500 each, including the voucher, and produce bucks in the 75 to 80 B&C class. Three of the hunts are good for yielding bucks in the 70 to 75 class, and those are $1,500 each, including the voucher.

One hunt remains for mule deer on three different ranches that total about 30,000 private acres in Unit 99. This hunt in 2008 produced a typical that scored 182 and a non-typical that grossed 190. This hunt is $6,000, including the landowner voucher. This hunt starts Oct. 25

Two deer hunts takes place at the same time in Unit 100 on a 7,000-acre ranch that was previously leased to another outfitter. "I'm excited about this hunt because the ranch has been producing some great bucks. The ranch has a ratio of about 70 mule deer for every 30 whitetail deer, and there are big bucks of both species. It's a good hunt for a 180-class mule deer. " The price of $4,500 per person includes the landowner voucher.--MD3802EP.Have five antelope vouchers for eastern Colorado. Some are $1,500 including voucher and the high priced are $2,500 including voucher. One of them is in Unit 88, that I really like. $1,500 are 70 to 75 B&C. $2,500 hutn should produce 75 to 80 class bucks. Oct. 3-9.

Kelly Beckstrom gets his Utah bull elk

Kelly Beckstrom of northern Utah and I have hunted together several times over the past 30 years, so when Kelly drew a tag with eight bonus points, he asked me to help him find a big bull. After a day of scouting and five days of hunting, Kelly finally got his chance to tag his trophy. It was an exciting hunt and involved tracking the bull to his bed, where he had hidden from another hunter. Even though Kelly supplied his horses, we hiked many miles during the trip because most of the bigger bulls were holed up in hideouts far from good trails. We also spotted several mule deer, including a 200-class buck, and three black bears, as well as three or four other great bulls. We have an outfitter who operates in this area, and we also offer a scouting package for do-it-yourselfers. The outfitter told me Saturday that he got a 390-class bull for another customer. If you have a bunch of bonus points, call for details. Kelly's story and more pix.
