GREAT NEW PRODUCT

I'm impressed with a new product that I highly recommend to hunters. Called PhoneSkope, it's a way to attach your cell phone to your binoculars or spotting scope. I had the company make me a PhoneSkope that allows me to connect my Galaxy Note II to a unique spotting scope that I use, consisting of a Nikon Scope Adapter paired with a Nikkor 300mm F4 lens. Through it I can see and photograph or video tape bucks more than four miles from my house. It's unbelievable. To contact the company check out www.phoneskope.com.

Hunt a two-bull caribou area in Alaska at a good price

If you've been looking for a reasonably priced two-bull caribou hunt, this outfitter has decided to offer both guided and self-guided hunts out of Deadhorse. Both the 100,000-animal Porcupine Herd and the 70,000-animal Central Arctic Herd migrate in August through this area. The two-bull limit is meant to encourage hunting in remote areas. The outfitter is including air charters between Deadhorse and the hunting area. You must pay for the flight between Anchorage and Deadhorse, which is about $750. Food is included -- freeze-dried meals for self-guided hunters and regular cooked meals for guided hunters. A seven-day unguided hunt is $3,000, and a seven-day guided hunt is $6,000. You may hunt with bow or rifle. Grizzly hunts also are available at $8,600. Details.

Rancher offers archery elk hunt for $1,500

Each year this southern Idaho rancher takes as many as two self-guided bow hunters for elk on his own land near Preston. Last year he had two hunters booked, but they cancelled, and he was not able to fill their spots. He has decided to offer this hunt for only $1,500 a person this year, or you can pay $2,000 and hunt both deer and elk. He saw three really big mule deer bucks after the rifle season last year. You can choose to hunt either the first or last half of the archery season, which typically runs from about Sept. 1-30. Most hunters get close-range shooting opportunities on this hunt. He now gets a landowner rifle tag, but it already has been reserved for 2010. If you want it for 2011, expect to pay $2,500. The hunt takes place in a zone where rifle hunters must apply in a drawing for tags, but bowhunters can buy a tag over the counter. Because of light hunting pressure i this unit, there are some big bulls. Hunt EKB4309

Rancher has elk hunt openings in northeastern New Mexico

A ranch where Rich LaRocco of Hunts.Net took a bull in 2004 has several openings this fall for Oct. 1-5 and 15-19. Details.

Colorado antelope hunts only $885

If you want to take an antelope and are tired of playing the game of trying to draw a lottery tag, here's an opportunity for you. One of our rancher/outfitters has leased a ranch in southeastern Colorado that is home to healthy herds of antelope. He gets a few landowner permits and is willing to sell them to hunters who can guide themselves after being shown the property. "Most hunters should get bucks in the 13 to 17 inch category," he said. Hunt PG3847.

Alaska moose hunt has openings in Sept.

This outfitter has room for four moose hunters, Sept. 5-15, about an hour north of Dillingham. Price is $10,000 each. a grizzly/moose combo is $15,000 (usually $2,800 more than that). The fishing in this area is fantastic for silver salmon, five-pound rainbow trout and northern pike up to 40 inches long. MS4951.
