Outfitter predicts great hunt this season, price reduced to $4,500

One of our outfitters had his best season ever last year with 100 percent success on whitetail bucks averaging 158 Boone and Crockett points, but he called today to say that he thinks this year will be just as good.

"We had 14 bucks registered in our local hunting club last year over 180, which has never happened," he said. "The best typical scored 193 B&C. And then in the province we had about 20 bucks that netted over 180, including six over 190. There was a 255 nontypical net taken just behind our camp. There was a 268 nontypical net killed in another unit.

"We saw a lot of big whitetails after the season, and we think this will be one of our best years ever, not only on whitetails but also on muleys, elk and moose." Details.

Utah drawing results are out

Some of us who thought we had enough bonus points to draw the tag we wanted were disappointed, but some hunters are getting good news. Hunts.Net's Chuck Johnson drew a Henry Mountains deer tag with only three bonus points. Long-time Hunts.Net Customer Bill Hall of Michigan drew a quality elk tag as well as a muzzleloader deer tag for the same time period. Jeff Schweighart of Wyoming drew a moose tag in one of the top areas. Long-time Hunts.Net Customer Nate Walker of Idaho drew a Dolores Triangle. If you drew a tag and don't have a hunt planned yet, please give us a call. And if you didn't draw a thing, don't despair. We have some good hunts still available on landowner vouchers, CWMU ranches and we have some elk hunts in areas where you can buy an over-the-counter tag.

Melanie Webb of Sol Fitness Adventures sent me these pictures of a desert sheep she found dead in Utah wilderness. She wanted to show it to others but made the mistake of telling the Bureau of Land Management about it, and the agency sent people to collect it.

I told Melanie that I didn't think even the BLM had the right to pick up that head without a permit from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, which owns the wildlife resources in the state. Citizens are not allowed to pick up heads in Utah, not even of deer and elk, but sometimes the DWR will grant a permit to possess a head after checking it out to make sure the animal hasn't been poached. -- Rich LaRocco

Mule deer in Kansas

If you drew a mule deer tag in Unit 1, 3 or 17 this fall, call us because we have some outstanding hunts available on prime private land with great bucks. One of the properties produced a buck over 240 B&C last year, and another a buck in the 220s.
