Yukon Territory: This 7,200 square mile area bordering the Northwest Territory is known for high sheep and moose numbers. Past years have produced near 100% success with 100% opportunity on sheep and last year all 13 moose hunters tagged big bulls. The average ram taken was over 10 years old and had 38+” horns, top ram went over 41 inches. 10-day hunts guided 1x1 are mostly backpack with some horseback available for $11,900. Sheep hunters start August 1 and can take additional animals on trophy fees: caribou $2,500, moose $4,500 and grizzly $6,500. Dall rams in the Northwest Territories: Over the past six years this outfit has helped 154 hunters take 146 rams, including unsuccessful bowhunters. In '04 one unsuccessful hunter wanted a monster and got his chance but missed. In '04 and '03 nine rams had horns at least 40 inches long. Rams average 10 years old with 37-inch horns. 12-day backpack hunts are $13,500.Sheep hunts start July 15 and continue into early Sept. You can add mountain caribou for a $2,200 kill fee.
