This hunt takes place on islands that are little known and lightly hunted, so the bucks are big for Sitka blacktails.

"One of my customers is a hunting broker, and he killed two," the outfitter said. "That was his fourth time hunting Sitka blacktails, and he had nothing but good to say about my hunt.  He said it was far better than anywhere else he had hunted, and he had hunted Prince of Wales Island and Kodiak Island twice. One of the islands I hunt turns out the biggest bucks in the state. We run most of our deer hunts in November during the rut out of our 53-foot boat, but we also can do alpine backpack hunts in August when the deer are in the velvet."

Discounts are available to groups of six or more hunters.

The outfitter hires a full-time cook for larger groups. Otherwise he or his chief guide does the cooking.

"We have prime rib and steak, crabs and shrimp," he said. "It's not a Beanee Weenee deal."
