GREAT NEW PRODUCT

I'm impressed with a new product that I highly recommend to hunters. Called PhoneSkope, it's a way to attach your cell phone to your binoculars or spotting scope. I had the company make me a PhoneSkope that allows me to connect my Galaxy Note II to a unique spotting scope that I use, consisting of a Nikon Scope Adapter paired with a Nikkor 300mm F4 lens. Through it I can see and photograph or video tape bucks more than four miles from my house. It's unbelievable. To contact the company check out www.phoneskope.com.

Turkey hunt on Iowa farmland yields Eastern gobblers

One of our Western outfitters who has long offered cougar and elk hunts has leased 10,000 acres in Iowa. He is offering two and three-day turkey hunts on the property. He said there are many Eastern gobblers on the place, and he expects virtually 100 percent hunter success on mature toms. A friend of his from Fremont, Iowa, helped him line up the lease. Jeff took 11 turkey hunters last year and all killed mature toms. Five of those birds were harvested on this lease and the others off nearby leases. You may hunt with shotgun or bow.

The property is divided into many tracts ranging from 340 acres to 3,000 acres. Accommodations are in a nice bunkhouse that features a nice kitchen, a nice dining area, and two bedrooms with two bunks in each. The hunt provider prefers to accommodate four hunters at a time. You'll fly into Des Moines, Iowa, and rent a car and drive 90 minutes to Fremont. The lodge is about 1 1/2 miles from Fremont.

The turkey tags are still under a drawing system. In 2006 there were 350 nonres tags in season 1 and 382 guys applied. 383 applied for 350 season 3. 440 guys applied for 350 tags in Season 4. Deadline to apply is Jan. 28.
