This outfitter offers a few hunts every year on his 100,000 acres of private land in Powder River County. Most bucks taken by his hunters score 140 or more Boone and Crockett points. The best time to take a trophy buck is normally in November. Deer season opens Oct. 21, and the first two weeks are a good time to plan a combination antelope/whitetail deer hunt.

You must book in time to buy your deer tag by March 15. Non-residents are guaranteed a tag through an allocation set aside for outfitter customers. You must draw a tag to hunt antelope, but the odds of getting a tag have increased in the past couple of years. Last year 90 percent of the outfitter's customers who applied for pronghorn tags drew. The application period is in June. Pronghorns typically run from 14 to 15 inches.

"We have a lot of deer as well as antelope," the rancher said. "If a hunter decides to hunt mule deer, his tag is good for either species, and we do very well on big muleys." Click here for details on the mule deer hunt.
